Abstract
ABSTRACT
When I first came back to painting, abstract painting was the thing that calmed me. It gave me space to play with color and freedom to put brush to canvas without struggling to make it be anything. Over time I developed a style of painting, a very structured grid style, and I realized that I'd painted myself into a box, literally. It was at that time I pursued portraiture and figurative painting, and the education I received put an entirely different spin on my abstract work. The bright, energetic and graphic style of these paintings is at the core of who I am. Experimental, sometimes excessive, and always bright.
